Introducing our thought-provoking T-shirt/Sweater design, created with a purpose by Jack and Company apparel, owned by two passionate indigenous sisters. This design embodies the essence of our collective yearning for real change and true recognition of indigenous land.

With the words "land acknowledgment" emblazoned proudly across the chest, accompanied by the phrase "good start, just words" below, this design serves as a powerful reminder of the stark contrast between acknowledging the land and the action required to fulfill those words.

We created this design because we believe that it's time for more than just empty promises. The current state of affairs in Canada, where acknowledging indigenous land is expected, yet no meaningful changes or laws have been enacted, is disheartening. As indigenous people ourselves, we have seen firsthand the lack of progress and the struggle to be recognized as rightful stewards of our ancestral territories.

Our very own experience living and working on these lands has been marred by the implications imposed upon us by the Canadian Revenue Agency, which fails to recognize our unique circumstances. The onus of taxation continues to press upon us, disregarding the truth of indigenous land ownership.

Through this design, we hope to spark conversations, ignite awareness, and inspire those who see it to delve deeper into the issues at hand. We envision a future where a land acknowledgment goes beyond just words, where it becomes a catalyst for meaningful change, true reconciliation, and recognition of indigenous sovereignty.

About the product:

The unisex sponge fleece pullover hoodie is a blend of Airlume cotton and polyester. The percentages vary according to color. A pouch-style pocket spreads across the lower half of the garment’s front. The hood can be tightened with a white drawcord. Both cuffs and waistband have ribbing for extra grip.
